Mr. Christopher Birch – Chief Magistrate

Chief Magistrate Birch was admitted to practice in Barbados in 1991 and thereafter joined Lincoln Chambers practising in the areas of Criminal, Civil, Family and Real Property Law.

He joined the Office of the Attorney-General in 1996 as Crown Counsel and first acted as Magistrate in District E in 2003. He was subsequently appointed as Deputy Registrar in the Copyright Unit of the Intellectual Property Office. He acted as Deputy Registrar in the Registration Department of the Supreme Court in 2005.

He has been the legal officer/troop commander for the Barbados Defence Force Reserve for 24 years, and has been responsible for Courts Martial concerning offences under the Defence Act, drafting legal documents and opinions, provision of legal advice to the Chief of Staff and Force Headquarters.

Magistrate Birch was appointed in 2006 and serves as a Magistrate for 10 years until he was appointed as the Chief Magistrate of Barbados in 2016.
