The Honourable Justice Denys Barrow

Mr. Denys Arthur Barrow received his Certificate of Legal Education and the prize for most outstanding final year student in 1977 from the Norman Manley Law School in Kingston, Jamaica.
A well-renowned figure in the legal profession, he has served on several occasions and given sterling leadership to the bar as President of the Belize Bar Association and led in the establishment of the first Legal Aid Centre by the Belize Bar Association. He was a member of the General Legal Council and of the Supreme Court Rules Committee and was instrumental in the revision and promulgation of the Supreme Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2005 and served on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee on legal affairs.
Mr. Barrow was elevated to the bench as a judge of the Eastern Caribbean High Court where he sat intermittently. In 2005, he was further elevated to the Court of Appeal where he remained as a sitting Judge until the end of 2008, when he decided to return home to Belize.
In February 2007, the Bar Association of Belize conferred on Denys Barrow its custos justitiae award in recognition of Mr. Barrow’s outstanding contribution to the legal profession and the practice of the law in Belize. The award is the greatest compliment which the Belizean Bar offers.

Mr. Barrow joined the CCJ on 1st June 2017.
